Greetings Newton Municipal School District

As the newly appointed superintendent of this great school district, I would like to take a minute to introduce myself to you and express my enthusiasm to serve the district.

My husband, Terry, and I are the proud parents of four children. Terry is a retired Forestry Technician from the USDA Forest Service. This fall, our daughter Janiya will be a sophomore at Jackson State University and our other three daughters Jasmine, Jalesa, and Joslyn are all educators. We, also have two adopted children Jayquan and Kirea who are in high school and elementary school. Finally, we have three amazing grandchildren, Addison, Braison and Ashton.

As an educator, I have served as a teacher assistant, teacher, building administrator, and central office staff over the past 27 years. My belief in education is strong and allows me to remain committed to providing innovative opportunities for all children to learn while ensuring their individual success.

Serving as your district leader, I believe that we can maximize our organizational effectiveness by continuing a school culture that supports shared decision making, trust, transparency, and fairness.

Since I began in the District, I have had the opportunity to meet with staff and community members and have learned a great deal about the district. In fact, every day I become more impressed with the rich history of academic excellence, the tremendous amount of family and community support and the genuine care about the success of all students.

I look forward to working collaboratively with our Board of Trustees, staff, students, and school community as we strive to ensure our students achieve and excel with Tiger Pride. I consider it a privilege to be a part of the Newton Municipal School District and furthermore look forward to building not only relationships but friendships with each of you.

Thank you for the kind welcome to Tiger Nation. I truly feel fortunate and honored to be joining a district and community where children are the common bond and where a passion for educating EVERY child is embraced by all.

Very Sincerely,

Dr. Glenda Nickson
